It's all about PERSPECTIVE: Character & Point of View

The perspective from which a story is told can be very important in discovering truths about the charactersSpeak is told from a first person perspective, so we see the story through Melinda's eyes. Both Swallowing Stones and Killing Mr. Griffin are told from a third person perspective, but each chapter allows us to see one character's thoughts and feelings. This is called third person limited. Think about point of view and what you have learned about the different characters.

Choose a character to analyze and answer the following questions:
1. How does the point of view of the story contribute to this character's development? Do you learn more about the character from his/her own thoughts and feelings, or from what others say?
2. What is one thing this character has said/done in this week's reading that was important to his/her character development? What did you learn about the character as a result of this action?
3. Would you be friends with this character? Why or why not?

*Be sure to cite text evidence to support your inferences.

  1. The point of view allows us to understands Jenna's feeling without being her. I learned Jenna likes math. "Math was her passion." Jenna said she doesn't like people feeling sorry for her. I learned Jenna doesn't want people's pity. I also learned Jenna doesn't talk or do much when she feels down. I would become friends with Jenna because she seems smart and very kind. Also she can see when people are being stubborn. "She knew how stubborn Andrea could be." She can even tell when someone isn't saying everything. " but she had an eerie sense that Chief Zelenski hadn't told them everything."

  2. The point of view in this story does actually help me understand the character. I really like how I am learning about the characters thoughts through their own mind. This week in the book Melinda used a paper clip and scratched it across her left wrist, she did this as an alternative to cutting . The character does not fully understand her reasoning for this "If a suicide attempt is a cry for help, then what is this? A whimper, a weep?" When Melinda's mother saw her wrist she was more angry then supportive."She says suicide is for cowards." I believe this is important for the character development because she has something she is hiding and she is trying to find a way to vent it, I also think it has to be harder for her because her parents aren't really trying to listen to what she has to say. I also realized that she is not fully over what happened during summer. I would try to be friends with this character because I try to help people whenever I can (especially a friend), I would want to see if I would be able to help her.

  3. Speak is written in first person. For example, this is what Melinda is thinking when Andy Evans comes to the table, "It feels like the prince of darkness has swept his cloak over the table. The lights dim. I shiver. I lean into the table to stay as far away from him as I can. The table saws me in half."(Anderson 90) Melinda is using I, and me to describe what occurred at the lunch table. This also contributes the story because Melinda is afraid of Andy. (I will add Q3 tonight)

    2. I would probably not be Melinda's friend at school because I am not outgoing enough. I am quiet and am not usually the person that starts a conversation. I conclude that Melinda and I would just ignore each other if put in a situation together. (I deleted this earlier because I needed to change my grammar)

  4. The point of view allows us to really understand Melinda's emotion. I'd say that we already see enough of Melinda's most deep emotions. I do however want to learn more about her, specifically about why the teachers also hate her at Mary whether high. I'd say that I would be her friend but I would be a little distant because she is hated and I would probably be hated as well.

The point of view allows us to understand Melinda's feeling because she telling the story. You learn more from her telling the story then someone else. i read that she good at shooting hoops in basketball and her p.e teacher said that she will bring her grade up if she teaches the team to shoot fail balls. Also she good at drawing and art.She was crying when her parent gave her the presents and she won'ted to tell her parent what happen at the party but she didn't. I learn not to keep secrets from my parent because then it

  6. IN killing Mr.Griffin chapter 5 its told by Mr.Griffin he is a guy who talks about people behind them if its good or bad but he never actually tells the like he said about Susan "No,she's actually one of my good ones." But he never tells her that.He also has a abrasive personality like he said by saying "Fierce dogs cower when I walk down the street and slink away to hide under porches."This story is told in first person cause it tells the way each person fells about everyone else.

  7. The point of view allows me to understand why mark wants Mr.Griffin to beg and craw the way mark did when he didn't get the chance to repeat the class when he wanted to.I will say that I learned enough about him because it talks about that the reason he didn't graduate was because of Mr.griffin.It also says that mark and his friends will wait until he begs to them.Mr.griffin treats mark and his friend bad too and wont didn't want to let mark retake the class until next semester and even the principal agreed.I wouldn't want to be marks friend because he is a bad influence to me,he won't let me concentrate, his friends would keep bothering me,and I would fail the class as well and wouldn't be able to graduate.pg 86,87,88

  8. In killing Mr.Griffin the point of view helps me understand more of why Mark wants to kidnap Mr.Griffin and make him beg and plead to be let free. Mr.Griffin was the reason that Mark didnt graduate. I would be Mark friends but at the same time i wouldnt because hes a bad influence and doesnt realize how much trouble his actions are about to get him in but he seems like a good person besides all the mistakes hes about to make when he couldve just kept working hard to get his grade up.pg 86-87

  9. The point of view in swallowing stones can help me understand Micheal and also his friend Joe . But Micheal gets very nervous and feels guilty about what he did. Micheal doesnt really know how to go about what he did. His friend had to help him on what to do. I dont know if i would be friends with micheal because he doesnt seem like he can keep a secret even it it involves him Francisco

  10. The point of view in swallowing stones helps me understand the feelings of Joe,Michael, and Jenna. I understand that Joe could care less about what happens with Michael as long as it isn't him even though it doesn't seem like it. Michael you can tell is a very good person just like Jenna but Michael just hangs out with the wrong people(Joe). Jenna is a very good person too, even though she doesn't know if Michael is a good person or not or who he is she thinks that he is some kind of horrible person when he really isn't. I think I would be good friends with Michael as long as I didn't hang out with Joe. I also think I would be able to be friends with Jenna because she seems really nice and so is her friends.

Something important in this section of the book was that Melinda made an art project of Barbie doll with a bone in it and taped the mouth to represent her trouble of not being able to speak out to others. 13. The point of view in Swallowing stones helps to better understand Micheal and Joe and the rest of the teens in the story. You learn most of the story from Micheal, as he feels guilty for killing a girls dad. Michael's friend Joe has to help him through the guilt and helps him keep it a secret. I would be friends with Micheal even after the incident because it wasn't his fault and it isn't right to judge someone for an outside effect.

  14. The point of view in swallowing stones helps me understand Micheal and how he is feeling after what happened. Micheal has a lot of internal thoughts and that helps me understand what he is feeling, it also adds detail to his character and what he stands for. Micheal this week could barley live with himself for what he did. He could barley keep a secret. i would be friends with Micheal just so i can help him make the right choice when he is about to make a bad one. I would be his voice of reason . Micheal just needs someone to tell him what to do so hes not lost.

  15. The point of view of swallowing stones helps the reader understand the thoughts and feelings of the main characters of the story. The thing that Micheal has done that has helped me understand him is that he feels guilty and go's and sets on the stares of the church and thinks about the that day the day he shot the gun into the air. I would be friends with him if i knew that he shot the gun and it could have been him who killed Jenna's dad. I would tell him to turn himself in before it becomes worst.

  16. The point of view in swallowing stones is third person omniscient, because the story tells us how Micheal and Jenna feel when it switches off between them in the chapters. When it switches off between Jenna and Micheal you learn how they feel with the accident that occurred. Micheal feels horrible that he committed man-slaughter,and the guilt is eating him up from the inside, Jenna on the other hand wants whoever committed the crime to be punished. I learned that Jenna is a person who will seek out revenge, while Micheal will try to forgive and forget. I really wouldn't want to be friends with anyone in swallowing stones because they are all older than me,and they seem like bad influences.

  17. the story is told by a third person perspective but its not omniscient because it only tells the story from Michel's or Jenna's perspective even though it is being told by an outside voice.the point of view in the story helps the reader understand how the main character is feeling and what their thinking, so we understand that Michel is feeling guilty and sad because of what he did and we also know that to him he cant bring himself to think clearly because of it and we learn that Jenna is depressed and she also feels like she is outside herself, as if what is going on is all just a big dream, or a nightmare. Would I be friends with Jenna? well, probably but most likely not. Would I be friends with Michel? No. Michel, although he is a lifeguard, he seems to be friends with the wrong people and is also influenced by his friends, like Joe, and he is also effected by that, such as Joe telling him not to tell the police and to keep the unintentional "murder" a secret.

  18. The point third person omniscient point of view help us grow with the main character. As we learn more about the story, we learn new details about Michael and how he feels about what he has done. We also learn about Jenna's feelings and thoughts though the story about what has happened to her and how she is dealing with her though situation. We get to know the thoughts and dialogue fro other characters and how they talk to Micheal throughout the story. Michael tells Joe, about how bad he feels about what he has done and he cant get it out of his head. As he says this, we get to realize how his emotions have taken control over him and effecting him mentally and he needs to do tell someone else about what he has done. " Micheal pressed his hand against his eyes. Hard. So Jenna had been there when it happened. She had seen everything. His first instinct was to bolt" (Pg. 47). This tells us that Micheal meet Jenna but she doesn't know what he has done. We realize that he is getting more and more anxious, as he meet Jenna, and he just wanted to get out of there and hid from his guilt. I would be friends with him because I understand hi situation and I would help him and try to get him to do the right thing. Also I would try to convince him it was an accident and get him to tell the police and face his fair consequences, even though he is my friend.

  19. If the entire story were from the eyes and mind of Mark then everything would be much darker and he wouldn't be as mysterious and terrifying but you would know what he was thinking and how he was perceiving the story. The most significant thing Mark has done was through out the idea of kidnapping Mr. Griffin. Yes but only to study him and learn more about how his mind works in order to help find information that the police would need to know.

  20. In Killing Mr. Griffin the point of view helps me understand why all the kids wanted to kill Mr. Griffin so bad. I learn more about what Mark thinks and why he is doing all of this. Mark has said that Mr. Griffin definitely deserves to get kidnapped for being so strict to the class. I don't think I would be Marks friend because I would never kidnap a teacher. I doubt that Mark was thinking of what could happen to him after he kidnaps Mr. Griffin. I learned that Mark hates Mr. Griffin so much that he doesn't care if he gets in trouble, he just wants to scare him badly.

The thrid person narrtive is that so far there is a side of mr griffin is that hes really nice to his wife, and that he has a child but he is also stricked because it was that he never really showed simpathiy to other people. Mark and every one are going to plan to scare him and susan is really happy that she is finally hanging out with David.

  22. I have chosen to pick Mark as my character. This story is written in third person limited but gives out plenty of information on each character by their attitudes and actions. With Mark you kind of learn about him from every one because he's the talk around school. One thing that sparked great attention to Marks character is when Mark says, "No one wanted to miss watching you die." I've learned that Mark doesn't really care much about peoples felling that much he's more of a no filter type of guy. If I went to school with Mark i would probably choose not to be his friend and try to stay away from him because his actions are usually rebellious and that kind of behavior can get you in big trouble. 25. In the beging we knew Mr.Griffin as a mean teacher who doesn't except sloppy work. Throughout the story we learned that Mr.Griffin was proffesor in college and he taught a group of half grown kids who didn't know how read/write and never turned in their homework on time. Mr.Griffin feels like if he becomes a high school teacher he will teach the kids how to turn in their work and be able to read and write essays. For the first time Mr. Griffin complimented one of his student Susan McConnell for her incredibly use of adjectives in her story. I learned that Mr.Griffin was actually amusing. Yes i would be friends with Mr.Griffin because he has a heart somewhere in there and he just need a friend to open up to about his past.

  26. In KIlling Mr.Griffin, the point of view makes me understand more about Mr.Griffin. All of his students thought that he hate them and don't want them to graduate, but he actually be restricted to them because he wants them to be better in many aspects. furthermore, he didn't say to Susan about how good she is: "no, she's actually one of my good ones." Because he didn't want her resting on her laurels, thinking she is a genius. When he was kidnapped by Mark group, he shout at Susan: "run!". Mr.Griffin is a humble person. I would be friend with Mr.Griffin because he has some of my characteristics.

  27. Mr. Griffin was a mean teacher at the beginning of the story. During Chapter 5, we learned a little about Mr. Griffin and his wife. Before Mr. Griffin went to teach high school, he taught college kids that weren't really informed enough on proper English and that's why Mr. Griffin switched to high school. When the kids kidnapped Mr. Griffin,he told them why he was being to harsh on them was because he doesn't want them graduating and not being able to read or write or turn their homework in on time. Yes,I would be friends with Mr. Griffin because he's not a bad guy, he's just trying to help his students succeed in life.

  28. The point of view as basically almost crucial for any story. The story needs a narrator no matter what, but sometimes it depends on what point of view the story is told in. In the novel Killing Mr.Griffon the point is third person, and if it where told in any other point of view, the story could be completely changed and might not make as much sense. The absolute main character of this story is Susan and she is still not telling the story. The outside narrator is and that narrator gives the readers just enough details to be able to understand things that the characters in the story can't. Mr.Griffon was first seen as a real jerk. How ever as we progress in the story and get inside information on Mr.Griffon, we learn that he actually is not a real jerk and is nice. An example of this is him deciding to tell Susan that she is talented, and when he is getting jumped he tells her to run. If Mr.Griffon was actually real I would most likely be his friend because of his true actions and not how he teaches.

  29. The story, "Killing Mr Griffin", is viewed from a third person point of view. This point of view is meant to give us a better idea of what are the character's feelings and thought about the actions they are taking, how they live their lives and, a little backstory about some characters like Mark and Steven. This week we saw that Susan denied going to see Mr. Griffin suffer, and simply stayed out of the kidnapping. "'No, nothing went wrong.' Susan bit her lower lip to stop trembling. 'I just don't want to go, that's all. I've done my part-what I said I'd do. Npw I don't want to do anything more'" This showed us that she can have a free will and that no matter how much she wants to he accepted in High School, she still has the courage to say no to people, even if they are her only friends. This shows that she can be a sell sufficient person that only wants to be friends with someone, which I would accept to be since she seems like a nice, calm, and smart person.

  31. I am reading killing Mr.Griffin and the point of view helps me understand the intentions the kids have towards kidnapping and killing their English teacher.I learned that Mark is doing all of this because he is mad that he got a bad grade but that does not mean you need to do something to a teacher Mark mentions somewhere in the book that he deserves to be kidnapped because how mean he is to the class and the students.I would never be friends with mark because I do not wants to get in trouble for doing something to a teacher or even hurting someone Mark would be a really bad influence for a lot of other students because the kids are getting bad ideas."Mr.griffin said that his students are going to fail his class because it is hard"Lesly Munoz

  32. In killing Mr.Griffin the point of view helps me understand more of why Mark wants to kidnap Mr.Griffin. Because in the beginning we already knew Mr. Griffin was a mean/bad teacher who was very strict and the reason why Mark didn't graduate. Yes, I learned more about Mr. Griffin from the characters thoughts and sayings, I found out that Mr. Griffin was a college professor teaching a group of kids that never turned in their homework on time, so Mr. Griffin thought becoming a High School teacher, it would be easier to teach kids to turn in their homework. This taught me that Mr. Griffin has some common sense but still isn't a very good teacher even with more than one job as a teacher and some experience. I would not want to be friends with Mr. Griffin because I feel as if he would not be reliable when I would need him, and will not be very nice or respectful with very little manners if not any manners.

  33. In the book Speak, Melinda is the main character. The story revolves around her because the book is in first person point of view.

    1. Throughout the book, Melinda has found new friends, is doing great in art, and is good at doing free throws in basketball. Melinda has been afraid of "IT", and "IT" is Andy Evens, a "prince of darkness"(pg.90), according to Melinda. I would be friends with Melinda because she knew what happened at the party and if i was at the party i would want to know what happened.

      Delete
  34. In Speak the story is told from a first person point of view. For me first person point of view is more descriptive because it is the characters explaining there feeling directly and sometimes using more details. One thing Melinda says is on page 68," David Petrakis is my hero". This sentence seems to me to be an important quote showing her development because Melinda is quite she seems to be afraid to speak and her friend David is not that way which is starting to rub off on her and making wanna start to speak up. Yes I would be friends with Melinda because she might have a secret or called the cops on a party but you must listen to everyone's side of story's and not judge off of others gossip.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The point of view in the story is Melinda's, and that's incredibly important. You get the ability to know of the thoughts in her head, for example on page 90. t talks about It, Andy and how Melinda feels about him (most likely this is foreshadowing from an event at the summer party). Something that happened that was a major development in Melinda's character is what happened on Christmas day. On page 72, she states: I almost told them right then and there. They noticed me drawing. They noticed. I try to swallow the snowball in my through... She says this with so much emphasis that it may be related to the fact that she thinks that her parents just ignored her all the time, but she was wrong. She loved and cried at the fact her parents noticed her, she now knows they do notice her (every once and a while). Personally, I would love to be friends with Melinda. We both enjoy being left alone when we need our own space, drawing, and have the same sense of fun, laziness. Melinda and I would be good friends, and I know she would love to at least have one friend

    ReplyDelete
  36. The point of view from Melinda's point in Speak is first person. You can learn and understand all of Melinda's feelings and how she's growing from her mind and thoughts. Her character is developed from a first person point of view which means everything she thinks is in the book. She is describing her whole life. This contributes to her character because you can get an idea about her from a few of the things she says. For example, on page 86, "I lie to Heather about the masking tape and say I put it in back in the supply box." I think that says a lot about Melinda and her personality. If she's lying about simple things like masking tape to her good friend she's probably lying about things that are way more important as well. The thing that Melinda did that was important to the story in this section was that she cuts her wrist with a paper clip on page 87. This shows that Melinda is very depressed and she needs to talk to someone about what happened. As a result from holding those pent up things, Melinda starts to feel the pain(both literally and figuratively). I would be friends with Melinda because I know how much one small gesture can make in someone's life. If I were just a friend to Melinda I think it could make a world of difference.

  37. The point of view of Speak is in first person, told by Melinda. This is important because we are able to see into the thoughts and feelings of Melinda. We also get to see how Melinda sees other people in her life. For example, when Andy is talking to Melinda, we get to see how Melinda feels about Andy. Another example is when David is arguing with the teacher, we get to see into the mind of Melinda when she thinks ¨David is my hero.¨

    ReplyDelete
  38. In speak, the story is told in a first person point of view, which is very important because the narrator gives a personal opinion on most things. On page 68 " David Petrakis is my hero" this shows that David's courage kind of inspires her to actually speak up which is an important part of her development. You learn more about Melinda because the story is told in first person and she gives more details about everything.

  39. The point of view for this story (Speak) is first person who happens to be Melinda's. You get to know a lot about her thoughts/feelings because she likes to explain how she feels like on page 90 she explains her feelings towards Andy and his prince of darkness ways. One thing I have seen that was a major development I have notice was when she got super happy because her parents notice that she was drawing and that was on page 72. I would be friends with her because i have went through some of the stuff she has

  40. speak is in first person, it is very important it shows how she feels about people and problems. like on page 90 she talks about how she feels about him. Something that has happened to was (her parents noticed she was drawling on page 72) i would be friends with her she is really nice she is and calm and is an outsider but i like that she doesnt have alot of friends

  41. I learn more of Melinda's personality of she says and does. You learn that she's lonely and wants to have friends and not leave her because of what other people say. She's scared of IT because he came in and was really close to her.." When IT came she started shivering as if she was scared of him" and I learned she's scared of some people. I would like to be friends with her because she will stay by you through anything because she's gone through stuff and would like to have a faithful friend and she will be a faithful friend to you.

  42. The point of view from Melinda's point in speak is first person. Melinda's character is developed from a first person point of view which means everything she thinks is in the book. Which technically she is saying/describing her life. For example around page 86 its says that, "I lie to Heather about the masking tape and say I put it in back in the supply box." And technically she's lying about simple things like the masking tape to her friend Heather and she is probably lying about certain things that are important about her or Heather. I think that Melinda is depressed cause she cuts her wrist with a paper clip on page 87. I would want to be Melinda's friend because some little thing can be a big difference in somebody's life.

I know this because on page 90 she says that she has feelings for Andy. her parents noticed that she was drawing and that she drew good. I wouldn't be best friends with her because she is always negative and does not like to make friends and I would not want to go tot her house and she would be crying all day and would tel me to leave the house because she is not feeling good.

Killing Mr.Griffin is written in third person perspective. in the beginning of the book the author is telling the story and using sue's thoughts and feelings. the author describes how sue wants to leave and live in a cabin on the shore of the lake and how she hates spring that describes her feelings. The author also describes Sue as a person who usually has good grades. I feel like Sue is pretty studious and responsible she gets her work done and is passionate about writing; because the author used third person point of view it helps and make the story interesting by giving the reader an idea of how the characters are feeling

  47. Killing Mr. Griffin is a 3rd person point of view. It has a narrator out side who knows what they are thinking and how they feel. "Run." was the last words said by Mr.Griffin to sue. She was scared to join the whole kidnapping group but she now knows how he feels about her and she regrets helping to kidnap him. She later said "I don't either." while talking about knowing her self, she relized she has changed and is scared/sad about it and wants nothing to do with it anymore. She just wants to go home and pretend nothing happend and now she started to ignore David.

  48. yes you do learn a little bit more about mr griffin. he talks about him and his wife. he also talks about how he was a college professor and switched to high school. he also says he is only mean because he does not want the kids to fail and not graduate. i would not be friends with mr griffin but i wouldn't disrespect or kidnap him because i just would not be friends with a teacher but i wouldn't want him to hate me. the kids just do not under stand that mr griffin is being mean only to help them.

  49. Killing Mr. Griffin is in third person point of view. This helps the story because you know how everyone feels in the book. Mr. Griffin is a mean teacher who feels joy when he fails students. He was the reason Mark did not graduate. His highest grade he gives out is a B. Teacher´s highest grades should be 100% not 89% and below. Many students aren´t able to pass his class and would qualify for summer classes or can graduate on time.¨The others would graduate with the knowledge of what disciplined work is all about.¨ He is saying that he won´t back down and he´ll continue being relentless . I would not want to be friends with Mr. Griffin because he does not seem like he´d be pleasant to be around. I feel like I would resent seeing him if I were to be friends with him.

  50. Mr.Griffin is a third person perspective it shows peoples feeling through out the book.you learn more about a person when you know what they are thinking or feeling. You cant tell much about any of the characters in killing Mr.Griffin.Susan was asked if she wanted to be part of the plan and she agreed i think she just says things that she does not really want to agree on when David is with her.Susan seems like a pretty smart and shy girl.i would be her friends she seems cool.

  51. Killing Mr.Griffin point of view is third person limited. For me third person is good because its shows all the characters thoughts and feelings for the situation they are in. Mr.Griffin seems mean in the beginning but he actually a nice guy and cares about his students he just hard on them to make them better. When they kidnap Mr.Griffin he yells run to Susan and it shows that he really does care for his students. I would wanna be a friend of Mr.Griffin because he actually a good person

  52. the point of view of a story can change what you know about certain characters and what they think or feel. Jenna said that even if the person who killed her father did on accident she thinks they are a cold blooded killer and should be punished. I learned that Jenna is really determined to find who killed her father because she goes to the police station to find information about her fathers death and she starts going door to door asking if they know anything about who might be the killer. I would be friends with this character because it shows that she is really determined to what she is trying to achieve and wont give up easily and I think that is a good thing.

  53. Swallowing Stones is told from 3rd person perspective and the view from Michael is that you get more details from what he thinks and things that people say. Things that happened was Michael and Jenna's feeling go on and off and and feels guilty because we had done before.I would probably be friends wit Michael because he a good person and he didn't mean to do anything wrong and he feels guilty so he could probably use a friend.

  54. Swallowing stones is told by a third person perspective.Third person perspective is very helpful because it shows what the characters are feeling and what situation they are. Michael seems weird in the beginning but then we see why he is acting that way and the sistuation he is in(page 9-12). One thing that my character Michael has not done anything to important to say that he did something.I mean if i was his best friend ever sense we were kids and started school together i will be friends with him and know that he wouldnt do anything bad adn ruin his future on purpose.

  55. The point of view shows all the characters feelings but really helps describe Jenna´s thoughts and feelings about her fathers death. It shows how even though she should feel down and accept peoples sympathy shes fighting it. She does not like people feeling sorry for her in the first place and it´s hard for her to accept her fathers death but all these people sympathizing about it is making it that much more real. ¨

  56. In Speak, the point of view lets us see Melinda's life through her eye's and we get to feel what she's feeling. I learn more about Melinda from her thoughts and feeling, because she is telling you directly what she feels instead of another character or a narrator. One thing that was important to Melinda's character development was when Andy Evans came up behind her, “He twirls my ponytail in his fingers...I mumble something idiotic and run for the bathroom. I heave lunch into the toilet.” After Melinda does this, I learned that she knows Andy from a previous experience, and that she really doesn’t like him. I would probably try to be friends with Melinda, because she seems like she needs more people to talk to about stuff, and she seems nice.

  57. The point of view is first person in my book "Speak". Melinda is the one telling her story so we can listen and understand her thoughts throughout the book. With her telling us what she thinks it gives us ideas about what could have happened at the summer party that causes all of this to happen. "I can smell him...I want to throw up"(Anderson Pg 86).this shows us that she is still terrified of what happened that one night. Being friends with Melinda would be difficult because of how negative she is but being her friend could probably help her think of the world in a more positive way.

  58. I am reading Speak. The point of view if first person.Since Melinda is the one telling the story, we understand how she is feeling and what she is thinking. For example she tells us how she feels in the first day of school. How everyone hates hers and how that makes her feel.¨It found me.I thought I could ignore it..¨(page 86) Melinda runs into someone in her past and her past might be really bad. I dont think I would be friends with Melinda because she always thinks negative instead of thinking positive. I get that she doesnt express herself about what happened at the party but maybe she should tell someone. If I was her friend I would help her think postive.

  59. The book "Speak" is told in first person. It's told from Melinda's view, and it shows us how she feels, thinks, and what she sees.On page (86) Melinda says "I can smell him over the noise of the metal shop" then she says "I want to throw up". she is scared because she knows everyone hates her and especially him. But if she talk to someone about what happen at the party then maybe people will understand why she did what she did. Then maybe people won't hate her anymore.

  60. The book im reading is swallowing stones and it Is told from the third point of view. The point of view in this story contributes to the character developments of the main characters Jenna, and Michael because we get o know them better, how they are or what they like, for example Jenna really likes math, and it's really obvious Michael feels really guilty. One thing that Michael has done is that he keeps finding ways to avoid his parents.Jenna keeps arguing with her mom and doesn't really find a way to make peace with her mom.I learnerd that Michael is afraid to face the truth, and that Jenna is still really having a hard time with her dad's death.I would be friend's with these charchters because they seem like really cool people despite what Michael did accidents happen.

  61. I am reading speak and it is told in first person point of view, and i learned a lot more about Melinda. One thing she told is why she called the cops at the party she was at in the summer and that explains why she is always depressed, from this action i learned that she is a strong person but doesn't like to open up to anybody. I would be friends with Melinda because nobody gave her a chance to explain why she called the cops.

  62. In the book "Killing Mr.Griffin" we don't get a chapter on marks perspective on thing but we do get people's perspective on him, sometimes in the form of a flashback. We learn more from what others have to say of mark, for instance in page 24 we get a flash back from jeff who is remembering the first time he ever he ever meet mark in middle school when people where making fun of jeff for his height. One thing mark said during this weeks reading that caught my eye was when he said he wanted Mr.Griffin to beg for making him beg. In page 86 paragraph 2 it states "He made me beg ,remember? Please Mr.G,let me back into your class. I'll be good boy.I won't cheat again".When i first saw that i was thinking "huh he does have feeling" because before all we knew was that he mysterious and emotionless.I would be friends with mark because i want to know why he is he a dark mysterious person? What happened to him that made him so emotionless? I would also want to be friends with him because he seems like the type of person who doesn't care what anyone has to say about him, he goes with the flow and that's someone who i'd like to be friends with.

  63. I'm reading "Killing Mr. Griffin", which is written in third person limited. We learn a lot about the characters through their thoughts and what they say, but we learn more about Mark through what others say and what thoughts they have about him. Mark may not seem like a character with many feelings or traits, but on page 86, we learn that he's resentful of Mr. Griffin because "he made me [Mark] beg", by making him say "'I'll be a good boy. I won't cheat again". On page 105, I find that the way Mark takes the news of Mr. Griffin's death is a bit interesting. He responds to it pretty calmly, only asking for clarification on how David knew he was dead and then saying "'I believe you.'" when David tries to tell him further. As a result of this action, I feel like Mark has dealt with something like this before. Mar seems kind of like a shady person who judges others but doesn't much care about what others think of him. He seems very cool and level headed, and I think that he'd be sort of cool to hang out with.

  64. With "Killing Mr. Griffin" the third person point of view helps the reader know the characters better through the dialogue and their thoughts. I think that we learn more through their thoughts. Example "Someday, Susan had thought,... Someday I am going to move out of this house and way from this family. I'll live all alone in a place where I can read and write and think, and the only time I'll ever come here is for Christmas." You learn that Susan doesn't like her family, and that she likes to read and write. Susan wanted to release Mr. Griffin after being filled with guild that shows us that she is at heart a kind person. I would probably not be friends with Susan because she likes to complain a lot about her life.
